Happy New Year!.  I have recently returned from visiting family in Northern Missouri.  I was soaked in winter light which seems unique to areas with unobstructed landscapes…the country side is full of color and unique structures in various levels of decay…fantastic for rural architectural portraiture.

Photo 13 Sep 1 note I was searching through my many hard drives today and came across this favorite of mine.
I photographed this couple while filming a television pilot called Big in Small Places.  These two folks were deeply happy, creative and loving.  I love that they hold hands and live rich full lives in rural America.  Here’s to long and happy lives together.

Photo 23 Aug 1 note Art along the way….this is an example of happenstance art.  While photographing for my project “Beauty of Decay”,  this spill happened and I immediately photographed the results.  I love the flattened dimension of this brief installation piece.  The installation lasted for all of five minutes.  It was soon gathered and collected by a friend.

Photo 10 Aug 1 note Just back from a trip to Northern Wisconsin.  I loved seeing old friends and family, and had a good book signing event at Flambeau Rama.  I especially appreciated the stories that people recalled while looking at the historical images in my book, and had fun talking with people around Park Falls throughout the festival weekend.  Thank you to my family for all the help and to the folks at the Chamber of Commerce.  This photo sums up summer in so many ways.  This is the lake I grew up on and now it is something to remember for my niece and nephews.  Enjoy the rest of summer-   Shane

Photo 3 Aug 1 note If you are in Northern Wisconsin at the famous Flambeau Rama festivities, you can find me at my book signing for “Greetings:  a postcard postcard”  as well as near the beer tent, at the lake or downtown during the many weekend activities.  See you all there.

Photo 26 Jul 1 note This has been a busy month both professionally and personally.  I have neglected to update the blog since my group show at Bergamot Station.  This is a recent photo from a swimsuit catalog shot in Encino for Verao Agora…The company just launched their new line at a fashion show in Miami and will soon be hitting retailers such as Anthropologie near you.  This is one of a mere 2500 edited captures for the day…a bit much, by my standards, however, the client was an inexhaustible supply of new merchandise.

Come join me at the Bergamot Station for a charity art exhibition and sale, created by Think LA.  The event is  Sunday June 26th from 1 to 6 in the afternoon showcasing advertising professionals’ personal art. I’ll have these few “American Greaser” framed prints at the show as well.  So come on out and support local charities.

See you there.

Photo 15 Jun 1 note What is it that drives people to collect images of themselves in front of landmarks?  Now, I understand that  we all want pictures of our vacation.  I am not one to point any fingers.  I go everywhere with a camera and document all aspects of a trip…Even trash and food,  especially, if it is a new and wondrous trash and food.
What I don’t understand is the need to stand in front of it.  As if a picture wasn’t enough…perhaps your friends won’t believe that you actually went on vacation and that you merely stole a mediocre picture off of the internet.  I wonder if the people that love to prove their trip exists and stand in front of various signs, taverns, monuments, and  pyramids have albums full of themselves in front of said signs, pubs, Eiffel Towers and distant Statue of Libertys. I might like  to see the album entitled  “Here I am standing in front of…”
I suppose it is better than clubbing said monument over the head and dragging it back home to the cave….or peeing on it to ensure that the public at large knows that it has been claimed once again, as your own…
So, the next time I snap a shot of some beautiful vista, building, landmark, temple or person, please don’t suddenly stand in front of it/them and plant your flag.  I will believe that you were there once too.
